----There are many theories, and many complicated expensive jigs to measure and "fit" the rider to a specific bike and/or vice versa ... However a lot depends on personal experience and personal taste , not forgetting the use and mood of riding. It is said that a rider needs 7 different bikes to cover all riding uses & styles, but many people have only the one bike for all , and so , a compromise is unavoidable..
My advise is to borrow as many friends bikes ( or try out bikes from shops if test rides are available ) and spend some time with the bike to evaluate it thoroughly on hills , long term comfort, ease of start stop etc. etc. I see so many on the "wrong" bikes , its a shame , a good fit will mean happy riding and more & more riding , a poor fit can be really disappointing....
